Technology is an enabler.
Whether it is enabling communication, efficiencies or human connection, technology plays a role in almost every aspect of our lives. For some, the relationship goes much deeper.
Accessible technology is a true enabler. It allows anyone, old, young, who may or may not have a disability, to use technology in their favour.
An everyday example is Siri. I chose this example because of the continuous rise of smartphone penetration globally which grows year over year. Siri which is the voice activated assistant by Apple has been supporting the blind since its release. The ability for users to control their mobile device by voice has put the control back into these user’s hands or voice. There are also other features like VoiceOver which reads and dictates everything that is happening on your screen. Each of these features enable users who need some support to use their device freely.
For almost any type of disability there is an app for that. Although this tag line may be over used, for these users it cannot be more beneficial. It truly enables them to communicate, become more efficient as well support human connection.
