We spend so much time on the internet, but do you ever wonder what do others do online? What are the mostly used websites in your country?
I used to wonder about this a lot so I dug into it and let me tell you right away, the internet population is clearly looking for indulgence, fun and entertainment. I was shocked to find that out of the TOP 50 websites in Canada none of them were educational related and that only 3 of them were productivity related.
I won’t make you wait any longer, here is the big reveal:
CANADA TOP 50 WEBSITES
For the detailed list, go here.
News and porn are competing, both representing 4 out of the TOP 50 websites in Canada. My naïve self would have thought that staying aware of what is going on in our country and in the world would be more important than watching porn, but guess not!
Another rather interesting fact is the first position of online shopping representing 14% of the TOP 50 websites in Canada. This is, yet again, a clear sign that e-commerce will gain more and more importance as time passes.
Finally, if we put social and user generated content together, which in my opinion should be merged, we get an outstanding 22% contribution. Obvious insight here (still worth being repeated): people love talking about themselves THE MOST, we are a narcissist generation and the best way to indulge in this is to go online and write about what we think, what we like, show others what we do, what we eat, etc. So if you’re a business looking to engage with consumers you know what to do: give them something worth talking about!
